Updating Mailing Lists with Your New Email Address
This page contains information about updating mailing lists to use your new illinois.edu email address.
Mailing lists use your email address as the unique identifier that allows you to send email to the list. Now that you have a new email address, you'll need to change your subscription information for any lists you subscribe to.
Campus mailing lists (such as the ones with @listserv.uiuc.edu in their names) have been updated so that they will recognize both your old and new email addresses. You don't have to do anything to update those lists.
Off-campus mailing lists vary in how they are managed, so we can't provide a set of instructions that will work with all lists.
The following are some suggestions for how you could proceed:
- Subscribe - unsubscribe
Subscribe to the mailing list with your new email address. When you see that you're receiving mailing list messages at the new address, unsubscribe the other address. - Make two separate accounts or personalities in your email software
Most email software allows you to have multiple From: addresses, so that you can control where your email appears to be coming from.
To post to your mailing lists, you could specify your old @uiuc.edu address for those messages when you compose them.
For instructions, see Updating Your Email for Illinois.edu. - Contact the list manager
It may be easier to send a message to the list manager, asking him or her to change the email address for your subscription; you could also simply ask the list manager what to do.
