Job Description
Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES) at the University of Illinois is conducting a search for one or more Desktop Computer Support Specialist in the Instructional Computing Services group (ICS). ICS supports Windows and Mac OS computer labs for CITES and other campus departments with application distribution, printing, machine imaging, and other services used by students and faculty for their instructional needs.
This position is part of a team of technical support professionals that regularly interact with students, staff, and faculty as well as other CITES and campus IT professionals.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Provide technical support for desktop computers within the Instructional Computing Services group and under the direction of an ICS Technical Lead.
- Use and maintain imaging tools for supporting approximately 1,000 desktop and laptop computers across campus.
- Help maintain ICS hardware (printers, desktops, and projectors)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3 years experience working in IT support or related field.
- Experience working with Macintosh OS-X workstations and Microsoft Windows XP workstations.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing IT hardware.
- Excellent customer service and communications skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience developing web pages and/or applications
- Experience working with one or more directories (e.g., Novell eDirectory, LDAP, or others).
- Experience imaging Macs and PC’s for a lab environment.
- Experience supporting instructional computer labs
- Familiarity with administering Linux or Windows servers.
